Stains on your favorite clothes can be disheartening, and sometimes it feels like they've chosen you as their forever home. But worry not! Whether it’s a spilled glass of red wine during a fun night, or grass stains from an exciting soccer game, Saugerties Laundry has compiled some battle-tested tips to help you banish those stubborn stains. Here’s how to get your garments looking pristine again.
Red wine can be a delightful companion until it ends up on your shirt. Act quickly for best results.
Blot Away the Excess: Using a clean, dry cloth, carefully blot the wine stain to remove as much as possible.
Cold Water Rinse: Run cold water through the back of the stain. This helps push the stain out instead of deeper into the fibers.
Apply a Stain Remover: Treat with a liquid laundry detergent or a stain remover stick and gently rub into the fabric. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes.
Launder as Usual: Wash in the hottest water safe for the fabric, and check the stain before drying.
When treating blood stains, time and the right approach are critical.
Soak in Cold Water: Rinse the stain under cold running water to dilute the blood.
Enzyme Cleaner: Apply an enzyme-based laundry cleaner and gently work it into the stain.
Gentle Scrubbing: After letting it sit for a few minutes, scrub the spot gently with an old toothbrush.
Wash as Normal: Launder on a regular cycle with cold water.
Be it spaghetti or ketchup, sauce stains are infamous for their staying power.
Remove Excess: Scrape off any excess sauce from the fabric to avoid spreading it.
Cold Water: Flush the stain with cold water from the back.
Pre-treat: Apply liquid laundry detergent or pre-treatment spray and rub in softly.
Laundry Time: Wash in the hottest water that’s fabric-safe.
Kiss oil and grease goodbye with this technique.
Absorb the Oil: Sprinkle baking soda or cornstarch on the stain and allow it to absorb the oil for 10-15 minutes, then dust off.
Liquid Detergent: Rub liquid detergent or dish soap onto the stain.
Wash Hot: Use the hottest water safe for the fabric and add a little extra detergent.
Repeat if Necessary: If the stain persists, pre-treat and launder again before drying.
Grass stains can be tough, but not invincible.
Pre-treat: A pre-treatment stain remover or rubbing alcohol can be applied directly to the stain.
Scrub Gently: Work the solution into the stain with an old toothbrush.
Rinse and Repeat: Rinse with cold water. If the stain remains, repeat the process.
Launder: Finally, launder in the hottest water allowed for your garment.
Act Quickly: The sooner you address the stain, the better the chances of removal.
Test First: Always test the stain removal method on a small, inconspicuous area first.
No Heat on Uncertain Stains: Never use hot water or dry a stained item until you're sure the stain is gone; heat can set stains.
Use Correct Products: Certain stains respond better to specific products—know what works best for the type of stain you’re dealing with.
Patience is Key: Some stains may require several treatments. Be patient and keep trying.
With these tips, Saugerties Laundry hopes to empower our customers to tackle even the most intimidating stains. Remember that persistence and the right technique are essential for success. For those stains that simply won't budge or if time is not on your
